Volunteers Serving the Community Since
1968
If you dial 911 to report a medical
or traumatic emergency in Greene County, Virginia, the Emergency 911 Communications
Center will dispatch an ambulance staffed with volunteers to render assistance.
The Greene County Rescue Squad
responded to 1241 emergency 911 calls in the year 2000. In 2003 we responded
to approximately 1800 calls and it appears that we will respond to approximately 2000 calls in 2007.
Currently, there is no charge
for the services that we provide. We are a non-profit organization supported by the county government, the Virginia Office
of Emergency Medical Services, and foremost, by donations from the citizens of Greene
County.
Greene
County is a rural community located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia,
bordering the Shenandoah National Park. It is home to approximately 18,000 people. Between
1990 and 2000, Greene County's
population rose more than 25%, and every year we see an increase in the number of emergency responses. It should be noted that due to the increased residential and commercial development, we will continue to
see an escalation of our county’s population and the demand for our services.
